In the world we live in today we get very caught up in the internet and all it has to offer, and that is great, but for a small business it is often the locals that are going to be the greatest support and that could mean that it is going to be word of mouth of one on one contact that will make a home business successful. Cheap marketing can be as successful as the most expensive if planned and organized properly.
Getting Help With Your Marketing
I have always believed that if there is any part of your small business that you cannot do or are uncomfortable doing then get someone who is good at doing that job do it for you.
The same goes for the time factor. A small home based business owner has to spend many hours ‘doing’ the business so often times the marketing of the business gets ignored purely and simply out of lack of time.
How To Get Your Marketing Done
If you are a mom with school aged children you will have a customer base right there in the palm of your hand. Nothing a little chatting up won’t do for you!
If you are not comfortable about this, as many people aren’t, then use your skills and get someone on side who is a social person and who loves to get out there and talk. They make wonderful advocates of your business. You can come to an arrangement to pay them or you can give them some of your products.
Word of mouth has always been one of the best ways to increase your business because it is a testament to you and your products from someone that they know.
Always Be Prepared To Promote Your Business
By this I mean ALWAYS carry something on you about your business. Whether it be a business card or brochure, always make sure you have at least 3 in your wallet or handbag. Tip: if it is a brochure, carry them between two pieces of cardboard so that they do not get tatty while in your bag – nothing worse! No matter how much you apologize. Also have some extras in your car.
NOTE: No matter what else you do in your busy day make sure that you spend ONE HOUR marketing your business each and every day!
At the beginning when you are building up spend at least 3 hours a day on marketing your business. You then have the time for planning, getting organized for the year ahead, getting quotes, looking at packaging and designs.
If you read through the articles on marketing I am sure you will find lots of ideas you can implement now or in the future for your business.
With over 25 years of business marketing under my belt I have tried many methods, some that have worked and others that have not.
BUT one thing is for sure, you MUST NEVER STOP marketing!
